Users reported that WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook were down in many parts of the world on Monday night. Facebook owns all three apps, which run on the same infrastructure.
“Something went wrong, so please accept my apologies. We are working on it and will fix it as soon as possible,” according to a notice on Facebook’s website.
On Twitter, WhatsApp confirmed the outage:

The website downdetector.com, which logs web services, also noted a dramatic increase in user complaints.
There were more than 20,000 cases of people reporting problems with Facebook and Instagram, according to the portal.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp, the social media giant’s instant messaging app, was unavailable to more than 14,000 users, while Messenger was unavailable to nearly 3,000 users.
In the categories of instant messaging, photo sharing and social networking, all three Facebook properties are market leaders in India.
In India, Facebook has more than 410 million users and WhatsApp Messenger has more than 530 million users, making it the largest market in the country. In India, Instagram has around 210 million users.
