White House criticizes Tucker Carlson for ‘ridiculous’ claim about Biden’s interference before Putin interview

WASHINGTON – White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized Tucker Carlson’s “ridiculous” claims about the Biden administration’s interference ahead of his anticipated interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Carlson confirmed Tuesday afternoon that he will interview Putin in Moscow, arguing in a post on X that “Americans have a right to know” about the war the Kremlin is waging in Ukraine.

“Almost three years ago, the Biden administration illegally spied on our text messages and then leaked their contents to their media servers,” the former Fox News host claimed in his preview video.

“They did it to prevent an interview with Putin that we were planning. Last month, we’re pretty sure they did the exact same thing once again. But this time we came to Moscow anyway.”

When asked about Carlson’s claim during his regular briefing Tuesday, Jean-Pierre initially said he would “absolutely not” comment on the interview or Carlson’s claims.

Moments later, however, Jean-Pierre changed course and said, “Actually, I want to get back to your question.”

“It is a ridiculous premise and a ridiculous statement that was made about this administration,” he added. “So I want to be very, very clear: It’s just ridiculous.”
