eShores, a travel company, spoke to several hotel employees, including cleaners, receptionists and waiters, for more advice. The travel company told Metro that hotel staff had warned them about the importance of always flushing the hotel toilet before using it. especially in hot regions.
Experts recommend flushing the toilet upon arrival, as well as upon returning to your accommodation after a day out, because in warmer climates, the toilet bowl and the area under the seat provide a ideal hiding place for insects and spiders. Therefore, rinse before use to prevent unwanted bugs from appearing.
While we’re talking about toilets, be sure to close the lid before pressing the flush button, and this doesn’t just apply when you’re in a hotel. Last year, scientists used special lasers to see how far droplets from a toilet traveled, and the results were disturbing.
Why should I lower the lid before use?
It has long been known that when a toilet is flushed, a cloud of microscopic droplets known as aerosol is created, which can transmit germs. However, researcher John Crimaldi, an engineering professor at the University of Colorado, told Business Insider that when he first saw the film of the experiment, he was “flabbergasted” as he had “no idea or reason to assume” that they would carry with them as far and as wide as they did.

Crimaldi believes his images will affect people’s attitudes toward normal bathrooms and has already begun to view them “with suspicion.”
“You go to the bathroom, you flush the toilet, the stuff disappears and you’re like, ‘Boom, it works great!'” he told the publication. Then you look at the videos we shot and think, ‘Oh, maybe not so cool!'”
