Wolf spider lays eggs on man’s toe, baby is born inside: ‘eating its way out’

A British man’s wedding anniversary spiraled out of control when a Peruvian wolf spider bit him and laid eggs on his toe, with a baby hatching and “eating its way out.”

Colin Blake and his wife were celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary on a cruise to France when he woke up to discover that one of his big toes had turned purple, the BBC reported Monday.

Blake visited the doctor on board and discovered that he had been attacked by the venomous eight-legged hunter during a cookout in Marseille.

He had been “totally unaware” that he had been bitten, because the spider lulls its prey before laying eggs.

“My wife thought it might be because I had new sandals and they rubbed my big toe and that made it red,” he told the outlet.

Doctors cut open her toe, releasing milk-like pus containing spider eggs, but four weeks later, Blake discovered she still had a “foreign body” in her foot, the outlet said.

“One of the spider eggs had not been removed and must have hatched,” Blake said.

“They think the spider was coming out, eating the toe.”

Antibiotics killed the creepy young reptile, but Blake’s toe had to be cut open a second time to remove its body.

“I asked if I could keep it, but they said no,” he joked.

Peruvian wolf spiders reportedly arrived in France from South America by hitchhiking on cargo ships.

Its venom is not lethal to humans, according to Orkin, a pest control company.
