The Salvadoran referee Iván Barton has become a ‘public enemy’ of the Hondurans after the match against Mexico, however, his double has already appeared on TikTok in the country.
It all started when a Honduran man, identified as lennynmaldonado, visited a hardware store in Comayagua, central Honduras, and caught the store’s security guard and baptized him as the ‘Iván Barton’ of the country.
“People have told me that I look like him, we have already caught each other,” the guard confessed, laughing when caught on the user’s camera.
The employee identifies himself as Edgar and is originally from La Paz, pointing out that he has never worked as a referee and does not know the Salvadoran, despite more local clients also comparing him to him.
What happened to Barton after the game?
After Mexico’s controversial qualification for the 2024 Copa América by leaving Honduras behind via penalties, Concacaf has already taken action on the matter in the case of Iván Barton.
Sports TVC learned that the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee is preparing a harsh sanction for the Salvadoran referee for the next matches involving the Honduran National Team or National League clubs.
Barton could not direct any duel involving the Honduran national team in any Concacaf competition. Likewise, the Salvadoran will not be eligible for matches in club competitions involving Honduran teams.

“I have an advantage, because it is already prohibited for the referee to enter Honduras,” said Edgar, after the referee was pointed out by the Catracha fans to favor Mexico in the match at the Azteca Stadium, increasing the extra time (accumulating more than 20 minutes of stoppage time).
