A heartbreaking event occurred in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, where a 27-year-old woman died in childbirth. This tragic result was due to severe blood loss when her husband tried a method she had learned about on a YouTube video for a home birth.
The main reason for her death was uncontrolled blood loss, mainly due to her husband’s improper cutting of the umbilical cord.
Rathika, a doctor at the Primary Health Center (APS), complained to the police about the death of Loganayaki, who lived in Puliampatti, near Pochampalli.
Police sources indicate that Loganayaki’s husband initiated a home birth when she began experiencing labor pains.
According to media reports, the woman was taken to the Primary Health Center (APS) in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival there.
Following these events, the police registered a case under article 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
A similar incident occurred in 2018 when a tragic event unfolded.
A 28-year-old pregnant woman lost her life when her husband and two friends attempted to give birth at home guided by instructional YouTube videos.
The woman, Krithiga, went into labor at her residence and sadly passed away. According to a HT report, her husband Karthikeyan asked her friends Praveen and Lavanya for help with home delivery.
Although the woman successfully delivered a healthy baby girl, she collapsed soon after due to excessive bleeding.
The couple, parents of a three-year-old boy, had opted for a natural birth for their second baby.
It is a stark reminder of the need to maintain safety standards and accessible medical guidance, especially during delicate times like childbirth.
