Woman is shot in the butt after slipping into an MRI machine with a loaded firearm

Who said being confined in a claustrophobic and noisy metal tube couldn’t be wonderful?

An unidentified Wisconsin woman was left with a pair of extra holes in her butt after inserting a loaded firearm into an MRI machine during a doctor’s visit in June, Food and Drug Administration records show.

The 57-year-old woman had a concealed gun as she was slid into the hole of the MRI machine, but when the machine’s powerful magnets activated, the metal trigger fired and the gun went off.

“The patient received a gunshot wound to the right buttock area,” said a report on problems with the use of the device submitted by the woman’s insurance company to the FDA in July.

“The patient was examined by a doctor on site, who described the entry and exit holes as very small and superficial, only penetrating the subcutaneous tissue.”

After being shot in the butt, the woman was hospitalized and her wounds treated. She made a full recovery, according to the report.

It’s unclear how the woman was able to bring a gun into the MRI room. She underwent a routine examination for metal objects and said she did not have any before entering, according to the report.

The extremely powerful magnets used in MRI machines are known to cause accidents to patients and hospital staff. fake images

MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging machines) use magnetic fields generated by extremely powerful magnets to create images of the inside of a human body. Its magnets are so powerful that patients must remove all metal from their bodies, and every item entering the machine rooms is carefully monitored to prevent ordinary objects from becoming dangerous projectiles.

Despite precautions, accidents caused by MRI machines are far from unheard of.

In October, a nurse at a San Francisco hospital suffered crush injuries after she became trapped between an MRI machine and a hospital bed, violently dragged toward the machine.

In January, a Brazilian lawyer was murdered in a São Paulo hospital after a gun he was carrying in his waistband was ripped from his pants and shot in the stomach.
