An unidentified Wisconsin woman was left with a pair of extra holes in her butt after inserting a loaded firearm into an MRI machine during a doctor’s visit in June, Food and Drug Administration records show.
The 57-year-old woman had a concealed gun as she was slid into the hole of the MRI machine, but when the machine’s powerful magnets activated, the metal trigger fired and the gun went off.
“The patient received a gunshot wound to the right buttock area,” said a report on problems with the use of the device submitted by the woman’s insurance company to the FDA in July.
“The patient was examined by a doctor on site, who described the entry and exit holes as very small and superficial, only penetrating the subcutaneous tissue.”
After being shot in the butt, the woman was hospitalized and her wounds treated. She made a full recovery, according to the report.
It’s unclear how the woman was able to bring a gun into the MRI room. She underwent a routine examination for metal objects and said she did not have any before entering, according to the report.
