A woman shot five people outside country singer Dierks Bentley’s busy Denver bar on Saturday after she was denied entry to the hotspot.
Denver police are searching for the suspect, who is still at large five days after the mass shooting outside Whiskey Row, located in a busy nightlife corridor in the city’s center.
The woman may have been targeting bar security who had stopped her from entering the Market Street bar because they suspected she was using someone else’s ID, investigators told KDVR.
He left the line of people waiting to enter and then turned around, pulled out a gun and began firing bullets toward the country music club around 11:15 p.m., Denver Public Safety told the local Fox affiliate station.
Instead, the shooter hit five bystanders who were outside the bar at the time and are not believed to have been the intended targets, police said. All five are expected to survive their injuries.
A man working security at a bar across the street told the local station he heard six gunshots. He rushed everyone onto the sidewalk in front of his bar and closed the doors.

“I was standing here and I heard six gunshots,” Andrew Reader told KDVR. “My initial reaction, my goal, was to get all these people to safety.”
He said staff ushered customers to the back of the bar and asked everyone to leave through the back door once police deemed it safe.
A woman who was waiting in line to enter Whiskey Row behind the suspect told Denver7 that people started screaming and running when gunfire erupted.
“It happened very quickly,” Madison Sharnowski told local news station ABC, adding that she initially froze when she heard seven or eight gunshots. “At that point, it’s like a flight or fight response.”

She said she was grateful that she and her friends were not wounded as a woman in front of her group and behind them each was shot.
“I am extremely grateful to be here. And be well, and that all my friends are well too. But it is a traumatic experience, especially for the five victims who were hit,” she said.
Sharnowski said most of the victims appeared to have been shot in the legs.

She stayed with one of the victims, a young woman who was shot in the ankle, until an ambulance arrived and helped her call her mother.
