The summer heat has been causing hardship for people in India. Although recent rain in and around Delhi has eased the country’s boiling temperatures somewhat, other states are still under the heat wave.

Woman hands out ‘gamchas’ to street vendors and rickshaw pullers, helping them beat the heat
Well, while most people gather indoors and enjoy the cool wind from the air conditioners, not everyone can afford to. To help people still roaming the streets while working as rickshaw pullers and street vendors, social worker Khushi Pandey came up with a plan.
Pandey began by handing out “gamchas” (cotton scarves) to street workers so they could at least cover their heads and protect themselves from heat stroke. She posted a video on Twitter of herself reaching out to these street dwellers and giving away dozens of red gamchas.
She wrote: “As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a heat wave warning, we have distributed ‘Gamcha’ to rickshaw pullers, street vendors who work hard around the clock. Our only effort is to make make things a little comfortable for them.”

While one praised the social worker, “Distribution is always to serve those in need and in line with their immediate needs. Great initiative and continuous efforts to bring a smile to the economically weakest sectors of society”.
