The body of a woman believed to be in her 30s was found stuffed in a trash compactor in the basement of a posh Chelsea condominium complex on Friday afternoon, police and law enforcement sources said.
The grisly discovery was made at 2:40 pm in the basement of +Art at 540 W. 28th St., a posh Manhattan development where a two-bedroom unit recently sold for more than $2 million.
The woman was found with trauma to her head and body, sources said.
Residents of the building, which sits half a block from The High Line on a street lined with luxury apartments, were baffled by the disturbing news.

On Friday night, police were seen swarming the lobby of the luxury residential building.
The couple, who declined to give their names, said detectives asked them if they heard a domestic dispute in the building last night.
It was not immediately known how long the woman’s body had been down there.
The woman has not yet been identified.
The city medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
