World War II veteran who ate McDonald’s for breakfast almost every day for the past 36 years turns 100

A World War II veteran who has eaten breakfast at his local McDonald’s almost every day for 36 years turned 100 last Friday and celebrated his milestone birthday by driving to the fast food spot for a giant party.

West Virginia resident Zan White and a group of his friends dubbed the ROMEO club have been swapping stories and hash browns for more than three decades inside the Elkins venues, WDTV reported.

The Golden Arches hosted a centennial birthday party on Friday that included decorations and a birthday wish from the state governor.

“I have seen Zan practically every morning for the 24 years I have been working; “It’s a pleasure to see it every morning, it’s one of the highlights of my day,” the restaurant’s area supervisor, Mark Godwin, told the station.

White, named after a former sheriff, has lived in Elkins his entire life, except when he served in World War II. At some point, he founded a group called the “Old Retirees Eating Out” club, or ROMEO for short, which meets at Mickey D’s, White explained.

Surprisingly, the old man still has his driving license after recently renewing it. Godwin credited McDonald’s for the longevity of his longtime customer.

“It’s definitely coming to McDonald’s every morning and having coffee,” Godwin said in a wry comment.

“As you look back fondly over the years, I am sure you are pleased to see the many lives you have positively touched,” Justice wrote to him.

The local sheriff’s office jokingly sent him a ticket for 100 years of reckless driving and a license plate, while the town’s mayor declared Zan White Day.

“I asked him what the secret was and he just smiled at me, so I hope that means I have to smile a lot, so congratulations to Mr. White, he is a great citizen that we have and we are honored to have him,” the mayor said . Jerry Marco told WDTV.

In the meantime, White vowed to keep up the morning routine.

“I’ve been coming here for 36 years,” White reportedly said with a laugh. “I can’t stop now.”
