Yahoo stated in its FAQ that the company has stopped publishing material in India and has closed Yahoo’s content operations in the country effective August 26, 2021.
“This was not an easy decision for us to make. However, changes in Indian regulatory rules have had an impact on Yahoo India, limiting foreign ownership of media organizations that operate and produce digital content in India. Yahoo has a long history in India, and we are proud of the premium local content that we have delivered to our users over the past two decades,” he stated.
Yahoo Cricket, he noted, “was affected by new FDI restrictions banning foreign ownership of media companies producing and distributing digital content in India in the ‘News & Current Affairs’ area,” because it had a “news” component. ”.
Under the new FDI legislation, digital media companies in India can accept up to 26% foreign investment, subject to central government approval, which will take effect in October.
