YouTuber Shared Eerie Social Media Post About Death Weeks Before Drowning in Hawaii

A 24-year-old YouTube filmmaker posted disturbingly about death just weeks before drowning during a trip to Hawaii.

Carson Philbin, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was swept out to sea on the morning of Jan. 13 (the day after his birthday) while swimming with three friends in Ka’ū District, according to Hawaii Island Police. Yo.

Three weeks earlier, the videographer urged his 6,000 subscribers to watch his video documenting his latest trip around the world.

“I had to carry a 40-pound bag of gear 34 miles up the mountain, but the cameraman never dies,” Philbin wrote in the Dec. 23 Instagram post.

In a follow-up post the following week, Philbin recalled the trips he took throughout the year and wrote, “2024 will be even better.”

The trip to Ka’ū, Hawaii’s southernmost district, appears to be another of Philbin’s excursions centered around his 24th birthday, friends told the Charlotte Observer.

He and three friends jumped off a cliff at South Point into the water, but were quickly overpowered by the “difficult ocean conditions,” police said.

Local passersby rescued the three friends, but Philbin was swept 75 meters out to sea before disappearing below the surface.

His body was later recovered by local fishermen and the Hawaii Fire Department.

Authorities are warning against diving in the South Point area, commonly known as the “Hoist,” after it claimed at least five lives in the past six years.

Philbin, who routinely climbed bridges and skydived in his YouTube videos, felt like he knew the area because his grandparents had a house nearby, friends said.

An autopsy will determine the official cause of death, but police believe Philbin died by drowning.
