Country singer Zach Bryan addressed his arrest Friday morning, admitting he behaved like a “real kid” speaking to a police officer who stopped his security guard.
The “Heading South” hitmaker, 27, who was arrested on a charge of obstruction of investigation, acknowledged that he acted like an “idiot” during a traffic stop in Vinita, Oklahoma, while driving toward Boston.
“I have seven Red Bulls in me, and I just wanted to be completely transparent with everyone who listens to my music about what happened when I got arrested and everything,” he told his 2.8 million Instagram followers.
“I want to start by saying that I had to deal with the legal aspects, I went to jail, they didn’t play favorites and I was an idiot today. My decisions did not reflect who I was as a person; I just want to make that clear. “I should have been smarter about it.”
Bryan explained that he had decided to drive to Boston, closely followed by his security guard, when the employee was stopped.
“We are about 40 minutes away, he is behind me and I see that they stop him,” he said about the traffic stop in Vinita. “I go around the block and I turn around. And I was just sitting there, I didn’t get out of the vehicle or anything.”
After 10 minutes, Bryan said he got out of his car to check what had happened.

He said the officer warned him he would be taken to jail if he did not return to his vehicle.
“And like an idiot, I thought, ‘Take me to fucking jail?’ What do you mean?’ Then I get really angry with him, he takes me to his car and I just didn’t help my situation at all,” she shared. “I felt like a child, he was ridiculous and immature. I just pray that everyone knows that I don’t think he is above the law. He was just being disrespectful and he shouldn’t have been. It was my mistake.”
After admitting he was “getting angrier and angrier” in the police car, Bryan said he started “talking like a jerk.”

“Like a real kid,” he said, adding that he was “angry.”
“I was in jail for a few hours,” he said. “When I got there I calmed down a bit because I calmed down. They were all super nice. I was in my cell for a while.”
Bryan also referred to another police encounter the day before when a police officer pulled him over while driving through a small town in Oklahoma.

“The first thing they ask for is license, registration and my address,” Bryan said. “And I said, ‘Hey, I don’t really feel comfortable giving you my address.’ I’m a musician and I don’t feel comfortable with that.’”
“He said if I didn’t give him my address he would take me to jail,” he continued. “And I said, ‘Man, I’m not going to give you my address.’ So he tells me to get out of the vehicle, he puts handcuffs on me and I’m like, ‘Man, what the hell is going on?’ Why are you doing this?'”
Bryan said the officer let him off with a warning once he “started to respect him” rather than respond to him.
The singer acknowledged that “he was an idiot” and said that his “actions did not reflect who I am as a person.”

“I’m a grown man and I shouldn’t have behaved like that and it won’t happen again,” he said.
