In a world where health and wellness trends are always changing, one centenarian has beaten the odds by living to the age of 100. Meet the great-grandma who claims to have discovered the amazing key to her long life – a practice that defies logic. Surprisingly, it’s not a superfood or a particular fitness routine; instead, she credits her extraordinary lifespan to an unusual source: a weekly consumption of 24 full-fat Coke cans! Scientists and health enthusiasts alike are interested in her story as it spreads, hoping to unravel the secret behind her uncommon living choice.

According to the 100-year-old grandmother, the solution is to consume full-fat Coca-Cola and coffee with six tablespoons of sugar. Maud Johnson claims to use at least 24 cans of the fizzy drink per week, amounting to 400 litres per year.

The busy great-gran goes out socially four times a week, has been drinking for around 23 years, and walks faster than someone 20 years her junior. “I don’t know when I started drinking coke, but I just drink it all day,” Maud, a mother of two, grandmother of two, and great-grandmother of three, remarked. “Either that or coffee.”

“It’s well known that Maud drinks 24 cans of Coke a week, has six sugars in her Cappuccinos, and enjoys red wine,” friend Diane Brimmell told Birmingham Live. She’s been sipping Coca-Cola like that for at least 23 years and probably much longer.

“However, she walks faster than some people 20 years her junior and refuses to use a Zimmer frame or wheelchair.” When you ask her, “How are you, Maud?” she replies, “I’m living, darling, I’m living.”

She’s wonderful for being 100 and being active. You never know; maybe the Coke helps with everything.

On Wednesday, she will be 100 years old. Maud, from Redditch, celebrated with her favourite Coke but also went all out with a Baileys. Her local Tesco’s Extra store even donated cakes and a bottle of sherry for a celebration at Studley’s Entaco Sports and Social Club with family and friends. Despite having lived in the tea-growing region of India during WWII, where her husband Arthur was stationed as a soldier, Maud prefers sugary drinks over tea.

Her husband died in the 1990s, but she has resided in the same house in Redditch since 1947. She spent most of her career as the secretary to the personnel manager at the historic Herbert Terry & Sons plant, fondly known as Terry’s Springs in Redditch.

Gordon Johnson, 80, claimed his mother enjoyed Coke because the family primarily drank coffee. “Despite the fact that I was born in India, in the heart of a tea plantation country, none of us drink tea. It’s all about the coffee for us,” Gordon continued.

“She had a lovely birthday and got a telegram from King Charles, and we ran out of vases by the afternoon from all the flowers.”
