90-year-old woman retires after 74 years without missing a single day of work

Among them is a remarkable 90-year-old woman who recently said goodbye to her career after a staggering 74-year run without missing a single day of work.

A 90-year-old Texas woman made headlines for working at a department store for 74 years. As Fox News reported, Melba Mebane recently retired from her position at Dillard’s Department Store without missing a day of work or calling in sick.

In 1949, Ms. Mebane began her career as an “elevator girl” at the Mayer & Schmidt department store in Tyler, Texas.

Later, in 1956, Dillard’s purchased the store.

In the years that followed, Ms. Mebane went on to work in men’s clothing and cosmetology.

“Melba sets the tone for everything, every expectation, every quality of customer service we look for in a luxury experience,” said James Saenz, store manager for Dillard’s in Tyler, as reported by Fox News.

“She brings everything to the team. Can you imagine how many people she coached, taught and coached to aspire to be more?” said Mr. Saenz, who has known Ms. Mebane for 65 years.

“She’s not just a salesperson. She’s a mother. She guides you. She gives you life advice. She’s amazing,” added the store manager.

Ms. Mebane, speaking to ABC affiliate KAKE, expressed her love for everyone at the store and her joy in going to work every day.

After he retires, he plans to rest, travel, and savor delicious food.

A celebration was held on Saturday to commemorate the remarkable work and unwavering commitment of Ms. Mebane.

She was honored as the store’s longest-serving employee and received a certificate of excellence in recognition.

In a statement given to Fox News, the 90-year-old shared her pleasure in working alongside “great ladies who love to eat, laugh and cut.”

As a single mother, Ms. Mebane raised her son, Terry, who has now pursued a career as a financial adviser.

Terry mentioned that Dillard’s employees considered her mother to be the “heart of the store.” The Fox News report also highlighted Ms. Mebane’s close relationship with corporate leadership, including members of the Dillard family.
