A 96-year-old Kentucky man was arrested after he was caught allegedly trying to kill his 90-year-old wife to “end her suffering” from dementia before attempting to take his own life, police said.
Seymour Taffler, 96, confessed to his murder-suicide plot when police arrived at his Berea home after a call was made about a possible domestic violence incident on Friday.
The couple’s daughter told officers that he had “attacked her mother,” Elaine Taffler reported, WKYT reported.
Police said Taffler was caught standing over his wife in an attempt to suffocate her, shocking his daughter when she found the scene at their Diana Drive home.
Taffler allegedly told police he tried to suffocate Elaine because the two didn’t have long to live. He also claimed that his wife had told him on several occasions that she was ready to die.
While the nonagenarian said he was going to take his own life later, police noted that he did not appear to have a plan on how to commit suicide.
