A former AOC aide paid himself $140,000 for “consulting work,” while PAC spent little on its actual mission

A former top adviser to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., funneled six figures in donor funds from her political action committee into his own pockets for consulting work, while spending minimal amounts on the actual mission of the PAC.

Corbin Trent, who previously served as one of Ocasio-Cortez’s top aides and helped propel her into office, formed the No Excuses PAC after her departure as communications director in 2019 and her 2020 campaign.

Trent launched No Excuses in 2021 with the goal of bombing the Senate filibuster by targeting Sens. Joe Manchin, DW.Va., and Kirsten Sinema, I-Ariz. But a recent report shows that No Excuses barely spent any money on its stated efforts.

Instead, Trent paid himself nearly $140,000 for management and communications consulting between February 2021 and September 2023, which is shown in documents filed with the Federal Election Commission.

During this time, Trent’s group spent just $14,831 on radio ad buys targeting Manchin and Sinema, meaning his PAC had paid him ten times more for reported consulting services than it spent on its stated targets. noted the publication.

Trent, who did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital, told the Daily Beast that he made the money from television appearances, which he said furthered the PAC’s mission. However, the publication noted that he had made consistent payments even when he did not appear on television.

Before acting as an advisor to Ocasio-Cortez and later forming No Excuses, Trent co-founded Justice Democrats, which was instrumental in bringing her to power.

No Excuses has moved away from the filibuster and focused on what appears to be persuading President Biden not to run for a second term and is soliciting donations to do so.

“President Biden, you have accomplished more in three years than most two-term presidents,” says No Excuses in the ad published on X. “But voters in battleground states say they will vote for Trump if you are the Democratic candidate. .

“If you try to hold on to power, your legacy will be Donald Trump’s ultimate destruction of our democracy,” the ad continues. “However, if you step aside, you will be remembered as one of the greatest presidents in history. Thanks joe. But now is the time to go.”

No Excuses reported just over $1,500 in the bank in its most recent filings and did not tell the Daily Beast how much it has raised as of today.
