He most recently played for the Colorado Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL). On the Chicago Young Americans U16, Alex played his last minor hockey and established himself as a star player with 44 goals and 43 assists in his final season. Pittsburgh Penguins: Galchenyuk and Pierre-Olivier Joseph were traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on June 29, 2019, in exchange for Phil Kessel and Dane Birks. Ottawa Senators: Galchenyuk signed a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Ottawa Senators on October 28, 2020, becoming a free agent and joining his fifth NHL team. Galchenyuk was a solid contributor as the Senators began the pandemic-delayed 2020-21 season. On January 19, 2021, Galchenyuk entered the lineup and scored in the Senators’ 4–3 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets. He played in only 8 of the Senators’ first 15 games and did not score anything in his last 7 appearances.
Toronto Maple Leafs: In February 2021 he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, finished the season with 12 points in 26 games with the Maple Leafs and contributed to the team’s divisional victory. Galchenyuk scored four points in six playoff games, but the Leafs ultimately lost to Galchenyuk’s former team, the Montreal Canadiens, in the first round.
