Andrew Yang sparks rumors about third-party management under the No Labels mantle

Former Democrat Andrew Yang has sparked rumors that he could jump into the 2024 arena under the mantle of the No Labels party.

“I’ve had conversations with several people associated with No Labels,” Yang joked to Politico.

“We have a lot of friends and people in common,” he responded when asked if anyone in the group asked him about the possibility of submitting a third-party bid.

Yang ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nod to be president in 2020, but dropped out shortly after a dismal showing in the Iowa Caucuses.

He then unsuccessfully fought to be the Democrats’ standard-bearer in the New York City mayoral race.

Shortly after his mayoral bid failed, Yang announced the formation of the Forward Party, which seeks to promote national unity and reform the electoral system.

The Adelante Party operates along a similar line to No Labels, which defends centrism and bipartisanship. For months, the No Labels party has been toying with the possibility of naming a third candidate.

So far there has been at least one obstacle: Who?

Others have also questioned whether a third-party option would amount to a spoiler or simply be unnecessarily doomed to failure.

“The question assumes that the objective of any third party is to win a presidential election… which is probably one of the mistakes [and] problems of the past,” Yang responded when asked if a third-party candidate is realistic.

In preparation for a possible third-party candidacy, No Labels has been working to gain countywide ballot access. Other names such as Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan have also been introduced as standard bearers.

Yang stressed that he is “any guy except Trump.”

“I wouldn’t run for president if I thought my candidacy would be counterproductive,” he said.

So far, former President Donald Trump and current President Biden are by far the favorites of their respective parties.

“You’re talking about two guys whose combined age is 160,” Yang lamented. “In a country of 330 million people, would you choose these two gentlemen at this stage? I mean, it doesn’t make any sense.”
