Apple (AAPL.O) announced Saturday that it has discovered some vulnerabilities that may cause new iPhones to run hotter than planned, including a flaw in the iOS 17 software that will be resolved in a future update.
Following complaints that the new phones are overheating, Apple has stated that the device may feel hotter in the first few days “after setting up or resetting due to increased background activity.”
“Another issue has to do with some recent third-party app updates that are causing the system to overload,” Apple explained, adding that the company is working with app developers to find solutions that are being implemented.
According to the company, the third-party apps that trigger the issue include the game Asphalt 9, Meta’s (META.O) Instagram, and Uber. On September 27, Instagram fixed the issue with its app.
To address the temperature of the iPhone, the impending iOS 17 bug update will not affect performance.
According to the Cupertino, California-based corporation, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not overheat due to their design, but rather the new titanium casings result in superior heat dissipation compared to previous stainless steel models.
Apple also stated that the issue does not pose any security risk or damage and will not have any long-term impact on the phone’s performance.
