Differences between the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6

design and dimensions
These two are easily distinguished: the Apple Watch Series 9 is rectangular, while the Galaxy Watch 6 is spherical.
One similarity is how little they vary between generations: the Apple Watch Series 9 looks the same as previous generations, and the Galaxy Watch is also pretty much identical to previous Samsung watches (although it’s a bit thinner now).
Both are expected to come in two sizes: a smaller one (41mm for the Apple Watch, 40mm for the Galaxy) and a larger one (45mm for Apple, 44mm for the Galaxy).
The aluminum base model of the Apple Watch Series 9 is rumored to use regular tempered glass, which can be scratched, while sapphire is only available on the $800 stainless steel Apple Watch. By comparison, the base and only model of the Galaxy Watch 6 includes sapphire glass on both the front and the bottom, which is fantastic. Sapphire is substantially more durable, with some estimates claiming it to be 60% more resistant to scratches.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is believed to retain the same band-swap technology as the original model, with the addition of a new fabric band with a magnetic closure. Samsung, on the other hand, is introducing new one-click straps for the Watch 6, a welcome upgrade from the spring-bar straps previously used. You may still use them, but they are backward compatible.
software features
In terms of software, Apple uses watchOS, while Samsung uses Google’s Wear OS platform.
WatchOS is certainly the most sophisticated and app-rich platform after ten versions, but WearOS is also growing, particularly in the last two years that Samsung has been using it.
Both platforms are used in a similar way: you swipe and tap, and both contain all the key features:
- heart rate monitoring
- training tracking
- sleep tracking
- blood oxygen measurements
- ECG function
