Arizona homeowner shocked to find 20 rattlesnakes living in his garage, including 15 babies: ‘This is crazy’

An Arizona homeowner got the surprise of his life when he discovered he had 20 rattlesnakes, including 15 baby snakes, slithering around his garage.

Snake handler Marissa Maki arrived at a home in Mesa on Tuesday after the homeowner called for help because three snakes were allegedly sheltering in her garage.

Chilling footage shows the moment Maki locates the snakes around the house heating, only to find more than a dozen other snakes trying to avoid her.

“There are a lot of snakes. “I’m not going to lie,” Maki tells the homeowner in disbelief. “This is crazy.”

As he took the babies one by one out of the garage, the caretaker could still be heard surprised by the absurd number of snakes.

“That’s a lot of babies,” she says, summarizing a total of 20 snakes, and she and the owner shared a nervous laugh.

Maki added that after finding some shed skin in the garage, it was possible that there were more snakes living near the heater and they left while the others waited to do the same.

He also noted that one of the captured adult snakes was pregnant, so the homeowner would have had even more snakes on his hands if he had waited to call his company.

Much to the owner’s chagrin, Maki told him that the snakes had likely been in his garage before as a safe haven to give birth.

“This might be the most snakes I’ve ever gotten in one call,” Maki said.

“Oh, great, I’m so glad I set a record for you,” the owner nervously joked.

Rattlesnake Solutions has confirmed that Tuesday’s haul was the company’s record for most snakes collected in a single call.

The snakes that were collected were identified as western rattlesnakes, some of the most common rattlesnakes found slithering in the Southwest and Mexico. Snakes can grow up to six feet.

The five adult rattlesnakes and 15 hatchlings have since been released into their natural habitat in the desert, and footage shows Maki counting and releasing the snakes into a safe den.
