Arpinder Singh is an Indian triple jumper. He represented India at many prestigious global stages such as the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. On the eve of National Sports Day 2018, he gave the Indian people the beautiful gift of a gold medal in triple jump after 48 years.
Birth and early life
Arpinder Singh was born on December 30, 1992 in Harsha Chhina, a village in Amritsar, Punjab, to Jagbir Singh and Harmeet Kaur. His father was in the military and always wanted him to become an athlete, he made his parents proud by making a name for himself in athletics at the national and international level.
He completed his studies from a sports school, Jalandhar. In 2006, Arpinder passed the Jalandhar Sports School exam and achieved a jump of just over 11 metres. Although he was not selected, he refused to give up. He studied hard and the following year he entered school with a result of 11.85 meters.

Career
Arpinder jumped 13.86 m in the under-17 school games and won the silver medal. He then tried his luck at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Ludhiana, where he was selected, but only as a one-day scholarship. He couldn’t get a scholarship and all the financial expenses were on his mind.
In June 2014, Arpinder broke his previous record of 16.84 m with a jump of 17.17 m at the 2014 National Interstate Championships in Lucknow. In doing so, he broke the national record previously held by Ranjit Maheshwari and also secured qualification for the 2014 Commonwealth Game, where he won a bronze medal. Maheshwari broke this record again in 2016.
On August 29, 2018, he won the gold medal in triple jump at the 18th Asian Games. She covered a distance of 16.77 m to win the gold medal. He became the second Indian athlete to achieve this milestone. He was preceded by Mohinder Singh Gil, who won gold in triple jump at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.
