Ayodhya’s renowned Hanuman Garhi laddoos have been registered for a GI tag, following Tirupati Balaji. The GI label refers to the geographic location or origin of a product. Any association or company that produces the products can request that a GI label be placed on them.

The first Indian product to receive a GI label was Darjeeling tea, which came into effect on September 15, 2003.

Manish Singh, a devotee, expressed his joy that Hanuman Garhi applied for a GI tag. “For the last ten years, I have been visiting the Hanuman Garhi temple every Tuesday. I came here to see the 4:00 am Mangla aarti. Today I came to know that the Hamungarhi laddus have GI tag registration. It is something of what we are all proud of.”
