President Biden and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) were moved to tears Thursday morning as celebrated tenor Andrea Bocelli performed the anthem during the annual National Prayer Breakfast at the Capitol .
After the Italian’s performance, Biden, 81, walked straight over to shake the singer’s hand, while Johnson, 52, told Bocelli during his remarks that he “had the front row crying.”
Biden and Johnson, who recently clashed over immigration policy and military assistance to Ukraine, sat next to each other in the front row and shook hands as the event concluded.

In brief remarks, the president offered his prayers to the families of three American soldiers killed last weekend in Jordan, the people of Ukraine and the remaining hostages held in Gaza following the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas. .
“We must not be enemies,” Biden said. “I have long believed that we must look at each other, even in our most difficult moments, not as enemies but as fellow Americans.”
“My prayer, my hope is that we continue to believe that our best days are ahead as a nation,” the president added. “We continue to believe in honesty, decency, dignity and respect. “We see each other not as enemies but as human beings.”
The National Prayer Breakfast has been held every year since 1953 and has been attended by every president since Dwight D. Eisenhower.
