Biden names former Hunter colleague to head whistleblower agency

President Biden tapped a former legal colleague of his son Hunter Biden to lead the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, whose primary goal is to protect whistleblowers, such as those who have alleged political interference in the five-year-old investigation into the presidential scion.

Hampton Dellinger, nominated by Biden for the position of US Special Counsel on Wednesday, worked on the Crisis Management and Government Response team at Boies Schiller Flexner in 2014.

Hunter Biden turned to that company to help Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings in 2014 and had dinner with Dellinger and others in March of that same year, emails from his abandoned laptop show.

The younger Biden served on Burisma’s board of directors from 2014 to 2019. It is unclear whether Dellinger did any legal work on Burisma’s behalf.

Hampton Dellinger previously won Senate confirmation to be the Justice Department’s deputy attorney general overseeing the Office of Legal Policy. YouTube/@SenatorJohnKennedyHunter Biden pleaded not guilty to three federal weapons charges on Tuesday. Saquan Stimpson – CNP

In July, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and other Republicans urged current special counsel Henry Kerner to investigate allegations of retaliation by IRS supervising agent Gary Shapley and by agent Joseph Ziegler.

Those whistleblowers have accused the Justice Department of meddling and favoritism in the sprawling Hunter Biden investigation.

Kerner has been in office since late October 2017 and CSO heads serve five-year terms.

Dellinger was confirmed by the Senate in late 2021 to serve as the Justice Department’s deputy attorney general to oversee the Office of Legal Policy.

He worked in that role until June 2023, according to the White House.

“[Dellinger] The work has generated savings for taxpayers by voiding unnecessarily costly tender awards. “His writings on a variety of topics include criticism of government actions and proposals for improvements in the public sector,” the White House said in a statement.

Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three federal gun charges after a tentative deal with federal prosecutors dramatically collapsed during a court hearing in July.

Last month, House Republicans opened an impeachment inquiry into the president to examine whether he benefited from his family’s business activities.

Biden has insisted that he was not involved in his son’s interests abroad, despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
