‘Bone smashing’: the dangerous viral TikTok challenge that puts health at risk

A dangerous viral challenge has raised alarms on social networks like TikTok due to the danger it represents for young people.

This new trend called “Bone smashing” is based on altering physical appearance to be more attractive people.

People who imitate this challenge seek to modify their face, while hitting themselves with hammers or other heavy or blunt objects.

Under no scientific evidence, young people follow this challenge that promises that, by breaking the bones of the face, they will heal and achieve a finer and more attractive alignment.

However, these actions can not only cause disfigurement, but also health complications, especially if they hit the nose, jaw, eyes, among other important facial places, experts warn.

Risks

A plastic surgeon, identified as @drpremtripathi, posted a video on TikTok warning of other potential risks.

“Please do not intentionally break the bones in your face, I can’t stop you from doing what you want with your body, but remember if you displace those bones and then they have to heal by themselves, you can end up with a malformation,” he said.

He recommended that those people who want to show off a structured face and a defined jaw line go to a professional. In addition, they should avoid putting their physical and mental health at risk.
