A British Airways flight attendant has reportedly died after collapsing in front of passengers just as the plane was about to take off from London.
The 52-year-old crew member died as the approximately 13-hour flight from London Heathrow to Hong Kong was about to take off on New Year’s Eve, the UK Sun reported.
The travelers were reportedly in their seats and the doors were locked when the flight attendant, who was not identified, collapsed to the floor at the back of the plane.
A passenger trained in first aid tried to save the man while the pilot urgently called doctors, but he died at the scene, the Sun reported.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of our team, one patient was pronounced dead at the scene,” London Ambulance Service said in a statement to Metro UK.
The flight was delayed until the next day with different pilots and crew in charge, The Sun reported.
“Our thoughts are with the families and friends of our colleagues at this difficult time,” British Airways told the Sun.

The Post contacted British Airways on Wednesday evening.
It was the second time in December that a British Airways worker died.
Another crew member, also 52, was found dead in his hotel room on December 23 between flights, according to The Sun. As a result, the flight from Newark to London was cancelled, the outlet said.
A source said the outlet’s teams are “frantic,” considering the two team members apparently had no underlying health issues.
The source described both as “family men,” leaving their families “shocked and in disbelief.”
“It has been a traumatic festive period for the BA flight team. “Everyone is deeply upset,” the source said.
