Nanny McPhee is a “one-of-a-kind” cat with a unique facial feature resulting from a congenital anomaly. She is currently being cared for at Cats Protection in Warrington. She is available for adoption.
According to Nanny McPhee’s adoption bio, “I don’t feel any discomfort and all the staff and volunteers here say she looks great.”
What led to the discovery of your condition?
Staff were unaware of Nanny McPhee’s unique trait until a veterinary checkup discovered her enormous snout was a double nose. Due to her distinctive nose, the cat was given the same name as the character played by Emma Thompson in the film of the same name.
“Unlike my namesake, I don’t have a poop bone in my body and am a lovely, gentle lady,” the cat’s biography read.

Why was she up for adoption?
Her owner was reportedly no longer able to care for her due to health problems and lack of money. Therefore, Nanny was put up for adoption. Common congenital abnormalities in cats include a cleft palate, missing one or both testicles, eye and heart problems, and more toes than usual on the front paws.
“We have all fallen in love with our one and only Nanny McPhee,” said center director Lindsay Kerr. We can’t take our eyes off her two nostrils.
“She truly deserves a home where she can settle down and become the center of a loving family.”

“Other congenital malformations in that area of the cat, such as cleft lip and cleft palate, are not uncommon,” adds Ms Brockbank, senior veterinarian at Cats Protection.
“They can be inherited or be due to an incident during development in the womb.”
