Charges filed in death of Texas teen who suffered severe burns

Police in Texas have charged a man after a teenage girl succumbed to burns she received last month.

Sebastian Lindsey, 23, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Madison Lewis, a 17-year-old girl from Jacksboro, Texas, who succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

Lewis was sent to the emergency room on December 16 after suffering burns.

Witnesses told investigators there was a gathering of people in the backyard of a residence in the 600 block of West Pine, within the Jacksboro city limits, where a small fire was burning inside a metal barrel.

Witnesses said Lewis was next to the barrel when an adult man, later identified as Lindsey, wanted to make the fire bigger, so he grabbed a gas can and poured gasoline on the fire.

Gasoline and fire traveled through the barrel and caused Lewis’s hair and clothing to catch fire.

Investigators later discovered that those present at the residence were afraid of getting in trouble because there was alcohol on the premises.

Instead of calling 9-1-1, they took the teen to Faith Community Hospital in a private car.
