Charlotte Sena kidnapping suspect arrested in 2017 for choking someone during ‘domestic dispute’

The man accused of kidnapping Charlotte Sena had reportedly been accused of choking another person during a domestic dispute in 2017.

Craig Nelson Ross Jr., 46, was arrested in April 2017 after police responded to a “physical domestic dispute,” according to NBC News.

Ross “applied pressure” to the victim’s throat during an altercation, according to police. The victim’s sex was not revealed.

He was charged with misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. He was released on his “own recognizance” after being processed, according to police records, seen by NBC. It was unclear how the case was resolved.

Ross has now been charged with the kidnapping of nine-year-old Sena and was arrested on Monday. Sena, who disappeared in Moreau Lake State Park while riding her bicycle, was found in a closet inside the trailer she lived in in her mother’s backyard.

He was detained with some resistance, according to New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

He became hooked on the case after his fingerprints were found on a ransom note left in the Seine’s mailbox. The fingerprints matched a 1999 case in which Ross was arrested for driving under the influence in Saratoga Springs.

A state trooper, who was guarding the home, is now under scrutiny for failing to arrest Ross when he allegedly left the note in the mailbox. There have been no allegations that the officer mishandled the incident, but New York State Police are investigating whether Ross should have been arrested at the time, sources told the Albany Times-Union.

Ross, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was arrested in his underwear about 14 hours after leaving the note.

Police are also investigating whether to press charges against Ross’s mother, on whose property he lived.

New York State Police Lt. Col. Richard Allen said they interviewed the mother.

“The mother was in the house, which is directly in front of the trailer that is in the backyard,” Allen, who led the desperate search for Charlotte for 48 hours, told Chris Cuomo on NewsNation Tuesday night. “We are working with her and interviewing her and as far as her charges against her, it is too early to say what may or may not happen there. “We are still trying to determine what she knew and what she did not know at that time.”
