The future of fast food delivery is here.
A Chick-fil-A location in Florida exclusively offers drone delivery service to local customers.
Diners within a 1.2-mile radius of the Brandon/Valrico Chick-fil-A in Central Florida will now have the option to have their spicy chicken sandwiches and shakes delivered via drone for a limited time.
Drone delivery is available between 10am and 6pm Monday through Friday, the restaurant announced on social media last week. The fast food joint said it hopes to expand to a 2-mile radius in the near future.
The restaurant partnered with DroneUp, a Virginia-based technology company that also launched a drone delivery service with a Tampa Walmart last year, The Tampa Bay Times reported.
The popular fried chicken chain declined to share where drone delivery would be introduced next.

“We are in the early stages of testing drone delivery at a small number of Chick-fil-A restaurants,” Chick-fil-A spokesperson Chelsea Lee told the local newspaper in an email.
Customers must select the “drone delivery” option in the Chick-fil-A app for special service. Once that’s done, employees load their food order into a cardboard box and attach it to a drone outside the restaurant, according to a video posted by the restaurant showing how the process works.
The drone then takes the food to its destination, lowers the box with a cable and gently drops it to the ground for the customer to pick up.

Drinks can also be delivered, which are sealed before leaving the restaurant, depending on the establishment.
“I just received ours, it was super fast. The food was hot, perfect, thank you!!!!” one satisfied customer commented on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
Another posted a video of the birth at home: “The most exciting thing ever,” he joked.
Drones are the latest delivery innovations Chick-fil-A has been testing. The company announced last May that it was testing autonomous delivery vehicles in select restaurants across the country.
