Dramatic body camera video captured the moment Florida deputies rushed to the rescue of a 5-year-old girl who accidentally shot herself in the leg with a firearm she found under a bed.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the home on Boxelder Steet in Deltona Saturday afternoon and found the girl “conscious and alert but bleeding,” the agency reported. said in X.
“Officers Maletto, Kagle, Williams, Estrada and Rodriguez worked quickly to administer aid, apply a tourniquet and take the child to Deltona Fire Rescue,” police wrote.
“She was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where staff reported that the quick response and application of the tourniquet likely saved her life,” the sheriff’s office added.
The girl “had access to a shotgun under a family member’s bed,” police said.

The deputy warns the boy that “this is going to hurt, okay?”
Police were praised for applying a tourniquet that likely saved the girl’s life, authorities said.
A moment later, she screams in pain.
“We got you! You’re okay, honey. “Don’t look at it,” the deputy assures him.
“Take my hand. Take my hand. You’re going to be okay,” a lifeguard tells the frightened girl.
Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood praised authorities’ response.
“The hairs on the back of my neck stood up listening to these officers assist this 5-year-old girl,” Chitwood. wrote in X. “What an outstanding example of decisive action and compassion from everyone involved.”
