Rude Chinese Vendor Questions Customer’s Worth
There are times when humans suffer from a fragile temperament, on one such day, an unidentified man from Shandong province in eastern China was verbally abused by a street vendor. The vendor was selling noodles at a night market.
The man going viral had approached the vendor to buy some noodles and had complained that 14 Yuan (Rs 161) for a bowl of instant noodles was too expensive. The vendor was not having any of the customer’s nagging and flashed him a scornful eye.
The customer was shocked when the vendor only added an egg and two vegetable leaves as ingredients add-ons to the ramen. The customer then asked the vendor, “How is it possible to sell at 14 yuan each? Too expensive, isn’t it?”
The vendor waved him away and ignored his question. Then the man questioned, “What are you doing?” By this time, the vendor’s son who was standing beside his father stood up and started shouting at him, according to the customer’s account of the incident.

The son told the customer rudely, “If you can’t afford it, then get out of there.” This irked the customer. The man then proceeded to ask the vendor how much a packet of noodles cost at their shop and declared that he would buy them all.
The man then paid 850 Yuan (nearly Rs 10,000) in exchange for the noodle packets. He then smashed the packets on the ground to express his irritation and paid additional undisclosed compensation.
Seeing the man’s aggressive reaction to his comments, the son made an apology. But the customer was not convinced, “The son made an apology, but it is useless. Can’t I smash the things I own?”
The incident sparked debate among Chinese social media users who were rather confused by the customer’s reaction. Many wondered why the man would reward the vendor by paying them more money when they insulted him.
While others viewed the whole fiasco as a battle of the egos and concluded that no rational explanation could fathom the reasoning behind the customer as well as the vendor and his son’s behaviour during the incident.
