The grandmother, surnamed Duan, from Guangan, Sichuan province in southern China, filed a lawsuit seeking 192,000 yuan (US$26,000) in childcare expenses for her daughter, Hu, and her son-in-law, Zhu. Duan took care of her son for five years, from February 2018 to July 2023, according to Jiupai News.
Hu and her husband, both employed in Chengdu, did not have time to care for their son, whose age is unknown. Since 2018, Duan has been taking care of her grandson. Her daughter and her son-in-law gave her a monthly stipend of 1,000 yuan (US$135) and 2,000 yuan for childcare expenses. Duan cared for the child without complaint for five years.
In July, he finally concluded that his efforts had not been properly recognized and that he deserved more money, so he asked the couple to give him 192,000 yuan.
