Chirag Kotwal was born into a middle-class Hindu family in Bhaderwah, Jammu. He completed high school from BSF Higher Secondary School, Jammu and then moved to Mumbai to study engineering at Veermata Jijabai Technical Institute. Meanwhile, he also received musical training at the Ajivasan Music Academy.

Career
At the age of 6, Chirag began participating in music competitions at school. After gaining some confidence, she started appearing on local shows in Jammu. In 2013, she moved to Chandigarh to perform opposite Vishal Dadlani and Shreya Ghoshal on the show Indian Idol Junior. She later received Indian Idol Junior sponsorship from one of the producers of her show, Mr. Parwana. Parwana also referred him to a music guru, Pandit Hari Krishan Sharma.
In 2020, Chirag received a Golden Ticket in Indian Idol season 12 in 2020, but was eliminated in the drama round. Furthermore, he continued to participate in Indian Idol auditions and became one of the top 15 contestants of Indian Idol 13 in 2022.
