Working in construction or simply using construction equipment at home is not for the faint of heart. When using instruments such as a drilling machine or cutting grinder, experts often emphasize the importance of wearing safety equipment, such as durable construction coveralls, specialized eye-protecting goggles, and gloves.
However, people often use these devices without any protection out of convenience, laziness or faith in chance. Sometimes that lack of caution can lead to serious injuries, but every once in a while, some unlucky people get a close shave by accident.

Who was the Australian construction worker who almost escaped death?
Now, a video showing how an Australian man avoided a major groin injury is gaining popularity online.
Alastair Candlin was working on a construction site at his home in Queensland, Australia, earlier this month. He was cutting a slab of metal with an old angle grinder. However, while he was cutting the metal, the angle grinder blade broke and he was sent flying.
What happened in the video?
Candlin had no idea where the mangled blade had gone until he looked down and discovered it was lodged in the thick fabric of his jeans around his groin. If the blade had been sharper or the force more powerful, she would have cut the cloth and produced a deep incision.
Candlin was not wearing protective goggles or a helmet, so the blade could have flown to another exposed region of his body.
Candlin then posted a short video of the broken angle grinder blade stuck to his pants after calming down. He uploaded this video to TikTok under the alias wolfofbrisbane. This video received over four million views and quickly spread to other social media channels.
How did people react to the video?
Prominent Instagram account Tradie Jobs Australia posted this clip online on November 15 with the caption “Close call.” “I hate Grinders,” one Instagram user commented in response. “That’s what security teams are for,” said another.
Candlin described the incident to Daily Mail Australia, saying: “When it (the angle grinder blade) broke it happened so fast I was looking for where it went.” When I looked down, I saw it in the last place I would want it. The shredder disk was getting old and approaching the end of its useful life.”
