The offender, who claims he was not taking medication at the time, said he only realized he had stabbed Treviño six weeks later, while she was locked in a jail cell.
At trial, his lawyer attributed the stabbing frenzy to a psychotic episode.
Nikoubin told the judge that she had been raped when she was 18 and that she did not realize how much her mental health had deteriorated afterwards.

“I had been on my meds for three weeks when I moved to Las Vegas, and just walking down the Strip, I threw all my meds away,” she said.
“I was hallucinating. She had so many delusions. She was drinking alcohol. She wasn’t doing what my parents taught me to do. If you add all that up, I had a manic episode. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. All this before my arrest.”
Over the past year, Nikoubin says he has been taking his medications constantly.
The offender, who claims he was not taking his medications at the time, did not realize he stabbed Treviño until six weeks later, while she was locked in a jail cell.
Meanwhile, despite apologizing to the victim in court, the knife-wielding offender repeatedly refused Tuesday to answer questions about himself.
Treviño said in court that he had chosen to “forgive her,” but “what the law decides to do is up to the law.”
