Couple, 2 young children and 3 dogs found shot to death inside suburban Chicago home

An Illinois couple and their two young children, along with the family’s three dogs, were found shot to death inside their suburban Chicago home Sunday night in a suspected quadruple murder, authorities said.

The bodies of father Alberto Rolón, mother Zoraida Bartolomei and their two sons, Adriel, 10, and Diego, 7, were found around 8:40 p.m. by Romeoville police after officers passed by their home for a wellness check.

Three dogs were also found shot to death inside the home.

Romeoville Deputy Police Chief Chris Burne said during a news conference Monday that police do not believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.

“Right now we are investigating this as a murder,” he said during the news conference broadcast on NBC Chicago.

He also did not believe the surrounding community was at risk, although no arrests have been reported.

“Due to the time that has passed (more than 18 hours from the time we were contacted), we are not asking anyone to shelter in place, we are not actively searching for anyone in the area,” he said.

It is unclear whether the parents were married, Burne said.

The two children were students at RC Hill Elementary School, Valley View School District Superintendent Rachel Kinder said in a note to the community.

Concerned family members called police after one of the victims failed to show up for work at 6 a.m. Sunday and did not respond to messages, police said.

Authorities believe the family of four was murdered between 9 pm Saturday and 5 am Sunday.

“I’m devastated,” neighbor Lynn Phillips, who lives a house away, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I’ve been crying on and off all day.”

Neighbors told media outlets that the family were nice people who did not visit the neighborhood often.

“They kept to themselves,” a neighbor told ABC 7 Chicago. “I really do not know. I never saw the kids outside playing and I have a son. I don’t really know what happened and it’s very scary. “Too close to home.”

“They were a mother, a father and a couple of children. The parents were outside working in the yard and we were saying hello and goodbye, that kind of thing,” Phillips told the Sun-Times. “Nothing unusual. We all keep to ourselves.”

Next-door neighbor Carol Love told the newspaper that the family made an effort to be good neighbors.

“It’s so sad. They were good people. They didn’t bother anyone,” Love said. “I hope they find out who did it.”

His loved ones launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral.

“They were hard-working people who had just bought their first home. “Her children were the sweetest, most innocent angels who could embrace your worries,” the page said.

Romeoville is about 30 miles southwest of Chicago.
