Delhi Mumbai Expressway Route
The Delhi Mumbai Expressway is an ingenious commission by the Indian government to connect India’s two major cities, Delhi and Mumbai, with the most probable minimum distance. The expressway will reduce the time needed to travel between Delhi and Mumbai from 24 hours to 12 hours.
The eight-lane expressway, once completed, is among the longest in India. It also leaves the possibility of expanding up to 12 lanes depending on the volume of traffic per lane.
More recently, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Sohna-Dausa section of the Delhi Mumbai Express highway on February 12, 2023. The expressway is expected to be completed in 2024. The mega-project is under review by the National Highways Authority of India.
The mega project is worth Rs 100 billion and 7,700 km of roads have been built so far. We have received word from some internal sources that around 80 lakh tons of cement will be used in the whole project.

The National Highway mega project was started on March 9, 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2024. The highway route will pass through five states: Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The expressway will start from Gurgaon in Haryana and will transit through Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. After that, it passes through Ratlam in MP and Vadodara in Gujarat and will finally conclude at Mumbai in Maharashtra. The expressway will connect some major financial cities like Jaipur, Indore, Kishangarh, Surat, Vadodara, Udaipur, Kota, Bhopal, Chittorgarh, Ahmedabad and Ujjain.

The mega highway is improving road connectivity between different states of India. The Delhi Mumbai Expressway at Kota is attached to the Agra-Gwalior Greenfield Expressway, which is further connected to the Agra Expressway at Lucknow and the Bundelkhand Expressway at Etawah.
This connectivity will reduce the time required to travel between Delhi and Gwalior to four hours. Another expressway between Chennai and Surat has also been approved, connecting with the Delhi-Mumbai expressway at Surat.
Speed limit on Delhi Mumbai Expressway
Vehicles can travel at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour on the highway. The eight-lane expressway also includes a separate lane for electric vehicles, a first for India. In addition, it is expandable to twelve lanes.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Opening Date
The opening date of the expressway has not been revealed so far, but if we look at the construction progress and some internal sources, the expressway will be ready for the public next year i.e. 2024.
Delhi Mumbai Expressway Toll
For road maintenance, the government collects tolls. The highway has established a system of automatic toll collection every 50 km from the entrance and exit gates. The automatic toll system tracks the time and place of entry and debits your Fastag account at the selected exit point.
Although toll rates are not finalized, the projected tax will be based on Rs 2.19 per km. The NHAI will soon reveal the toll rates for different stretches of the highway.
