A woman named Gayatri recently described her horrific encounter with the renowned ‘thak thak gang’ in a harrowing event on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road.

The incident sheds light on the gang’s strategies as they attack drivers on the road or parked vehicles, using various distraction and robbery tactics to divert and eventually rob unsuspecting victims.

What happened?

Gayatri shared details of the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). A man approached his car, knocked on the window and tried to open the door, according to his story.

The man claimed she had run over his foot. Gayatri, on the other hand, was quick to assess the situation and pointed out the illogical nature of her accusation, assuming it was a ploy to deflect her.

Why is this happening in Delhi?

The man’s activities appear to be in line with the tactics of the notorious thak thak gang. The gang often distracts drivers by banging on car windows, while other members rush to steal merchandise from inside the vehicles.

Distraction techniques range from fraudulently displaying a flat tire, spilling oil and breaking windows to claiming to be injured as a result of the driver’s alleged irresponsibility.

Gayatri responded to her trauma by sharing three critical safety tips for anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation. He stressed the importance of keeping car windows up and doors closed, never opening the door even if asked, and calling authorities or driving to the local police station as soon as possible.
