Democratic representative resigns from DSA membership over anti-Semitic rally while Rashida Tlaib plays victim

Are you listening, Rashida?

U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) resigned his membership in the Democratic Socialists of America on Wednesday after Sunday’s horrific anti-Semitic rally in Times Square.

“After the brutal terrorist attacks against Israel, which included indiscriminate killings, rapes and kidnappings of innocent men, women and children, I can no longer associate with an organization that is unwilling to denounce terrorism in all its forms,” Thanedar, 68 years. , he said in a statement.

“Sunday’s hate-filled, anti-Semitic demonstration in New York City, promoted by NYC-DSA, makes it impossible for me to continue my membership. I am on the side of Israel and its right to defend itself. “There is no room for moral ambiguity in the face of pure evil, as we have seen in Hamas.”

The demonstration in Times Square included protesters trampling and burning an Israeli flag, while one person was seen showing an image of the swastika on a cell phone in mockery of counterprotesters supporting the Jewish state.

On Tuesday, DSA’s New York chapter issued a tepid apology for promoting the event, but declined to directly condemn the Palestinian terrorist group.

“No amount of violence, deprivation or collective punishment will make everyday Palestinians and Israelis safe,” the statement read in part.

Thanedar’s harsh rebuke of the DSA stood in stark contrast to that of fellow lawmaker Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), who represented Thanedar’s Indian-born Congressional District 13 for four years before moving on to represent District 12 after that the lines of Congress were redesigned.

On Wednesday, a day after Palestinian-American Tlaib ignored a Fox Business reporter who repeatedly asked her to respond to reports that Hamas was gruesomely murdering Israeli children (including beheading babies), she issued a self-pitying statement.

“I do not support attacks and killings of civilians, whether in Israel or Palestine,” he said, according to Politico. “The fact that some have suggested otherwise is offensive and based on bigoted assumptions about my faith and ethnicity.”

Tlaib has also received criticism for keeping the Palestinian flag outside her House of Representatives office and referring to Israel as an “apartheid” state.

Despite cutting ties with the DSA, Thanedar insisted he will continue to champion key progressive goals.

“I will continue to work to achieve the goals that brought me to Congress in the first place: universal health care, workers’ rights, strong unions, equity for communities of color, environmental justice and compassionate immigration,” he added.

“My ideals have not changed at all. “I firmly believe that ending my association with DSA serves the best interests of my constituents, as they expect me to represent them by helping to build a better, more just world, without fanning the flames of hate.”
