Delhi street vendor sells Moong Dal pizza
Food blogger Live For Food shared a video on his Instagram account and shocked people on the internet with the bizarre Desi twist on pizza from a street food vendor in Delhi. We are all more than familiar with a basic pizza, the one with bread as a base with tomato sauce, vegetables and cheese as a topping.
Even the strangest combinations of pizzas have at least their bread base in common, but this desi vendor wanted to do away with the unhealthy origins of the pizza base, which is made mostly of maida (common flour).
In order to make a healthier option for pizza lovers, a street vendor who sells the fruits of his labor near the ITO subway station invented moong dal base instead of plain flour. In the clip, the vendor shows how he prepares the “healthy” pizza option.

First you add the moong dal mixture to a hot pan and it makes a kind of pancake. Once the mixture is cooked, open the pancake and add cheese, vegetables and a little more cheese to the inside of the pancake.
The vendor then closes the pancake he broke and adds more cheese on top to give it the face of a pizza. Once the cheese is melted, the vendor serves the hot moong dal pizza to the food blogger. In his closing remarks, the blogger informed his audience that the popped cheese pizza was worth Rs 200 at the booth and was, in his opinion, the best option for a healthy and affordable pizza.

While the blogger gave the dish a thumbs up, his audience wasn’t on the same page as him. People refuted the claim that the pizza was in any “healthy” shape or form. Many mentioned the processed cheeses used to make the pizza, as well as the block of butter the vendor added on top of the pizza.
Many reached out and wondered what the point of the dish was, while some noted that it was a much better option to eat a real pizza with the same amount of cheese and toppings than to crush your craving with a moong dal pizza.
