The storm has intensified monsoon rains in the region, causing flooding in various areas of the province.
But that didn’t stop Mae and Paulo Padilla from marrying in Malolos’ Barasoain Church.
“When we saw the church, it seemed to prevail over me that no matter what happens, we will continue,” Mae stated in a translated statement.
“It makes no difference if we don’t have any guests coming due to our situation. “What matters is that we are both present, our families, and our desire to marry,” she continued.
Local media quoted Paulo as stating that their homes and the roads leading to church had been swamped.
“The one across the street from our house is nearly a foot tall. Then there are the roads,” he remarked, according to a translated version of his statement.
“Even if our car is sinking, we’re still going to get here,” he said.
Because of the frequent rains, the couple admitted to feeling worried in the days leading up to their wedding.
Nonetheless, on their big day, they remained steadfast in their commitment to each other.
Despite getting wet in their wedding gowns and suits, Mae and Paulo’s guests bravely waded through the flooded church to witness their nuptials.
Typhoon Doksuri came ashore on Wednesday
Typhoon Doksuri came ashore on an island on Wednesday and lashed northern Philippine provinces with strong wind and rain, displacing over 12,000 villagers as it blasted tin roofs off rural dwellings, inundated low-lying towns, and cut out power, officials said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries after Typhoon Doksuri slammed into Fuga island off Aparri town in Cagayan province, where 12,100 people were evacuated from high-risk coastal towns, and schools and workplaces were closed as Doksuri approached. The typhoon, which has a 700-kilometre (435-mile) ring of wind and rain, has also displaced thousands of people in other northern provinces.
With sustained winds of 175 kph (109 mph) and gusts of up to 240 kph (149 mph), Doksuri lessened significantly but remained deadly and lethal. Forecasters reported it was blowing over the coastal waters of the Babuyan Islands in the Luzon Strait off Aparri town on Wednesday morning.
