Devendra Jhajharia is an Indian parajavelin thrower. He is the first Indian Para-athlete to win two gold medals at the Paralympic Games. He has one of the most promising and successful Paralympic playing careers. Devendra competes in the F46 category (athletes who suffer from an above or below elbow amputation compete in this category). He is also a recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award (2004), Padma Shri (2012) and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (2017).
Birth and early life
Devendra Jhajharia was born on June 10, 1991 in Churu district of Rajasthan, daughter of Ram Singh Jhajharia and Jivani Devi. She has two brothers named Pradeep Jhajharia and Arvind Jhajharia. When she was eight years old, while she was climbing a tree, she touched a live electrical wire. She received medical attention but doctors were forced to amputate her left hand.

Education
Devendra did his schooling from Government High School, Ratnapura, and graduated from NMPG College, Hanumangarh. In 1997, while competing in a school sports day, he was discovered by Dronacharya awardee coach RD Singh while competing in a school sports day and from then on, the young athlete was coached by Singh.
He credits his personal trainer with the 2004 Paralympic Gold Medal and says he gives him a lot of advice that helps him during training.

Career
Jhajharia won the gold medal at the 8th FESPIC Games in South Korea in 2002. The Indian Paralympic team qualified Jhajharia for her first Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004. By setting a new world record of 62.15 m, she surpassed the old of 59.77 m. . With this throw she became the country’s second gold medalist in the Paralympic Games.
Another triumph came in 2013, when he won a gold medal at the IPC World Athletics Championships in Lyon, France. Incheon, South Korea, hosted the 2014 Asian Para Games, where she won a silver medal. Despite throwing 59.06 meters at the 2015 IPC World Athletics Championships in Doha, Jhajharia finished second, taking silver behind Chinese thrower Guo Chunliang, who set a championship record in the event.
During the 2016 IPC Asia-Oceania Athletics Championships in Dubai, she won a gold medal. She broke her own 2004 record in the men’s javelin throw F46 event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, with a throw of 63.97 meters.
