Dozens arrested for breaking into Biden campaign headquarters in Delaware as organizer warns ‘young people won’t support’ president

Nearly two dozen left-wing activists were arrested Monday for storming President Biden’s campaign headquarters in Delaware to protest his climate policies and the war between Israel and Hamas.

“Young people will not support a president who changes his attitude regarding climate action and who finances genocide,” the Sunrise Movement, the group behind the demonstration, warned in an X publication.

The 21 “adult subjects” who were arrested from about 100 protesters who gathered outside Biden’s campaign office will be charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Those arrested went to the eighth floor of the Brandywine Building in downtown Wilmington, which houses the headquarters of the 81-year-old president’s re-election campaign, and refused police orders to leave.

Protesters continued to wave signs reading, “Climate Funding, Not Genocide” after the arrests of those “sitting” at the Biden campaign operations center.

“Young people are sitting down because Biden needs to lead and deliver, or he will lose.” read a tweet of the Dawn Movement.

The group also accused the president of “reneging on his campaign promise not to drill on public lands” to approve ConocoPhillips’ $8 billion Willow Project.

The energy giant says the massive Alaska oil and gas drilling project could produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and create up to 1,800 jobs during construction and 300 long-term jobs, while generating thousands of millions of dollars in royalties and tax revenue for Alaska and the federal government.

“Biden cannot develop renewable energy on Monday, develop fossil fuels on Tuesday, and then claim to be climate president,” the Sunrise Movement argued. “Science doesn’t work like that and young voters know it.”

Biden campaign spokesperson Lauren Hitt defended the president’s handling of the climate, arguing that Biden “secured the largest climate investment in history, putting the United States on a path to reducing climate pollution to half by 2030.

“President Biden is working hard to finish the job, while Donald Trump has promised to undo all the progress we’ve made,” Hitt told The Post. “As president, Trump called climate change a ‘hoax’ and slashed critical environmental protections.”

On the war between Israel and Hamas, Hitt highlighted Biden’s comments during a February 8 press conference, where he expressed that Israel’s response in Gaza “has been exaggerated.”

Last month, a USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll showed Biden was losing support among young voters, a traditionally strong Democratic voting bloc.

According to the survey, more voters under the age of 35 support former President Donald Trump than Biden (37% to 33%).

Biden won the demographic in the 2020 election by 24 points over Trump.
