Einstein’s brain for sale: a Chinese site sells a virtual product that claims to improve intelligence

Taobao, a popular Chinese online shopping portal, has made waves by offering a rather peculiar item known as “Einstein’s Brain” at remarkably low prices, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

Despite its unconventional nature, the platform claims that buyers of this product can potentially cultivate a mind similar to that of renowned physicist Albert Einstein.

It is worth noting that this viral product is virtual and is not marketed as a pharmaceutical or physical chip.

More than 20,000 customers have already purchased this product, priced at just 0.1 to one yuan (equivalent to Re. 1 to ₹12) per unit. Curiously, the product is accompanied by an image of Albert Einstein.

”Our product is virtual. After paying it, what you need to do is wait to become smart. Usually, after a night’s sleep, you will discover that Einstein’s brain has already grown in your head.” says a product ad.

Meanwhile, this product has become an internet sensation and has received high praise from its users.

Some people have even claimed that they have witnessed improvements in their cognitive abilities.

One user said, “It’s very effective. I noticed a significant difference in my skills when I took a test after using it; I was able to solve all the problems.”

However, some people mocked the product and expressed their discontent. Poking fun at it, another customer wrote: ‘After buying, I realized that I was stupid before. So, as expected, I became smart.”

A third person quipped: “I am happy to announce that I am researching the theory of controlled nuclear fusion.”

A psychological consultant from Chongqing explained that the product is intended to help manage emotions and provide comfort.

Chen Zhilin said: ‘“If you believe you have the same wisdom as Einstein and bring the confidence and joy to do so in the exam room, you will get better grades than usual.”

”It doesn’t cost much but it can bring joy and satisfaction. In a fast-paced society, this type of simple, low-cost emotional experience has become a way to relax and have fun.” he added.

It is worth noting that Taobao, owned by Alibaba Group, is the largest shopping website in China and is ranked as the eighth most visited website globally in 2021.
