Elvis Presley’s iconic “Lion Claw” necklace is expected to fetch a tidy chunk of change when it hits an online auction next month.
The custom diamond, gold and ruby-encrusted chain, dubbed the “Holy Grail” of Presley jewelry, recently appeared for sale in the Gotta Have Rock and Roll online auction, which runs through December 15.
Although the necklace is listed with a minimum bid of $350,000, experts expect it to fetch up to $1 million.
“The number of photographs in which Elvis can be seen wearing this necklace is mind-blowing, he wore it throughout his daily life, on and off stage,” the auctioneers wrote in the listing.
The King of Rock and Roll was photographed more than 100 times wearing the necklace, including at 30 concerts, his daughter Lisa Marie’s fifth birthday party, and on dates with his longtime girlfriend, Linda Thompson.
He even wore it during his iconic meeting with boxer Muhammad Ali, where the two, both dressed in Elvis robes, pumped their fists in Presley’s dressing room after a concert in Las Vegas.
Elvis’ “Lion Claw” necklace is expected to sell for up to $1,000,000 in an online auction. Gotta Have Rock and Roll.
“Arguably the most iconic photograph of Elvis Presley, he can be seen wearing this exact lion’s claw necklace,” the auctioneers said.
After Presley’s death in August 1977, his prized jewel was displayed at the Elvis Presley Museum in Graceland.
He enjoyed a brief stay with Jimmy Velvet, who has been called “The Godfather of Memories,” according to the site.
The personalized necklace is encrusted with diamonds, rubies and gold. Gotta have rock and roll.
The necklace is the latest in a series of treasures from the “Jailhouse Rock” singer to be auctioned in recent years.
His beloved Smith & Wesson Model 53 revolver was auctioned in August for $199,750, more than double what auctioneers anticipated it would sell for.
The gun, which a mysterious friend gave to Presley nine months before his death, was sold just 10 days after the anniversary of the rock legend’s death.
Elvis wore the necklace to Lisa Marie’s fifth birthday party. Gotta Have Rock and Roll.
Last December, the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer’s beat-up private jet sold for $260,000.
Presley purchased the plane, which sat unused in a lot for four decades, the year before his death for $840,000.
