Employee Faces Accusation Of ‘Electricity Theft’ By Boss For Charging Phone During Work

Dealing with your boss at work can be really difficult at times. Things might become frustrating when asked to work more hours or when leaves are cancelled at the last minute.

In reality, there are several businesses where carrying your phone is prohibited. This could be because some businesses believe phones pull employees’ focus away from tasks, but others have a different motivation: protecting essential and sensitive information from breaches.

But if you thought that was the worst that could happen, wait till you hear this Reddit user’s account.

In a post, the Reddit user described an event in which the manager yelled at this person for charging their phone at work, accusing them of stealing the company’s electricity for personal use. Yes, you read that correctly.

“My boss got onto me today for charging my phone at work, saying I’m stealing the companies electricity for personal use. What do you guys think? I’m not on my phone all day or anything I just sometimes forget to charge it at night before I go to bed. It’s a desk job,” the post read.

People have had a variety of reactions to the post, which was only posted a day ago. The incident clearly stunned and agitated Reddit users, who chastised the manager.

It’s common for workplaces to provide charging stations or outlets in common areas, break rooms, or even at individual workstations, allowing employees to charge their phones and other devices during the workday. Charging your phone at work can be especially convenient if you use your phone frequently for work-related tasks, communication, or productivity.

The man revealed that his boss was going to be fired

The user later modified the message to reveal that the boss would be fired by the end of the month. “I just found out today through a team announcement that our boss, who made this comment to me, is being let go at the end of the month.” “That’s probably why he was lashing out,” the text stated.

People on Reddit supported the man. A user wrote, “Your boss is a douchebag. Saying that’s stealing company electricity is like saying breathing is stealing company air or drinking from a water fountain is stealing company water.”
